Gary Taubes is not biased because no one pays for results, he simply finds an interest and did research on it. He studied science at Hardvard then he has the intellectual capacity to be able to understand the scientific experiments conducted on nutrition. Everything he does is look at the data and report. Carbohydrates are the preferred source of energy for the body. All species whose anatomy similar to humans eating carb high, low fat diets. Westerners are fat because they eat the fat. Whole grains have been consumed since the advent of the agricultural revolution some 10,000 years ago. No heart problems and cancer. There has never been such an exponential increase in the consumption of meat today. (Historically, meat was mostly reserved for the rich and the rural population has eaten very little). Ornish does not call for processed carbohydrates. Westerners are ill because of the type of high fat foods and scavengers. Nobody calls processed foods.

@ XES119 in 1985, the states with obesity rates the highest was only 15-19%. . . Now some are more than 30%. Why do you think that? Could it be that Americans are eating more fat than ever, despite what the government and all the nutritionists and the diet books are saying, or they are eating less fat and more carbohydrates? XES119 @ 30 years, our government told us to eat more cereals (look for the BOTTOM of the food pyramid) and we have been getting fatter and fatter and sicker. Before the food pyramid people Bacon and eggs for breakfast, now his cereal. a sandwich with lots of fat mayonnaise. Now his sandwich with fat-free bread or a salad dressing with fat free and carb. and dinner was a greasy steak with mashed potatoes. now its lean chicken with another salad.

Parts of our people who could not tolerate grains have died off, the rest. . . so it can be tolerated, but this does not in good health.
